Busy. Tired. Over it.
Sound about right?
Everyone tells you to have a bubble bath, light a candle and book a weekend away. Meanwhile you’ve got a full diary, a mile-long to-do list and the washing is still sitting there.
Honestly, who has the time?
So here are 10 simple self care ideas that actually fit into a busy life. Quick, easy and they work. No big time commitment required.
Not sure if you’re actually burned out? Grab my free guide, 7 Signs You’re in Burnout. And if you’ve only got five minutes, start with Self Care for Busy Women With Zero Time.
Burnout isn’t just feeling knackered and stressed for a few days, this shit is real. Years of running on empty put real stress on your body, including at the cellular level. That’s why supporting my body became part of my reset, starting with a 100% natural activator backed by more science than you can poke a stick at. This is literally the best thing I’ve done for my body and health.
When you’re already stretched, a big self care plan is just one more thing to fail at. I wrote about that in Bubble Baths Won’t Fix Burnout.
So keep it small, easy and achievable. Small and consistent beats big and exhausting.
If it’s not in the diary, it doesn’t happen. Block out one slot a week, 30 to 60 minutes, and treat it like a meeting you can’t move. Yes, really. It will feel a bit weird at first, but it’s the first step in breaking a pattern that has led you to burnout.
Ten minutes in the daylight, ideally in the morning. No phone. Just stand there and stare at a tree. It’s free, it takes no effort and it helps you feel more awake. Even better if you take your morning coffee and enjoy it outside in peace.
Forget the punishing workouts. Go for a walk, stretch, do some Qigong, shake it out in the kitchen. If you hate it, you won’t do it. If you like it, it stops feeling like a chore. Bonus points if it includes being outside in nature.
Coffee and whatever’s left in the pantry is not a meal. Plan one decent meal a day, and keep easy options on hand. Not sure where to start? Grab my free guide, 7 Foods to Reduce Inflammation.
Dim the lights, put the phone in another room and skip the doom scroll. If you’re wide awake at 3am, read Wide Awake at 3am? The Evening Wind-Down for Burned Out Women.
Not because it’s productive. Not because it’s good for you. Just because you enjoy it. If everything feels a bit meh, this one’s for you.
Being the one who copes with everything is bloody horrible – and also not necessary. Share the load at home. Hand something over at work. Being a good delegator is such an amazing skill and if you do it right, it won’t even look like you’re asking for help. If you struggle with this, check out my Boundaries ebook.
Order the groceries online. Set up a recurring delivery. Get a cleaner in once a fortnight if you can swing it. You don’t have to do it all yourself. Getting my groceries delivered has been a major relief and freed up extra time every week.
Not a text but a call. Or meet for a walk. When you’re busy, connection is the first thing to go, and one of the first things that helps. Connection and community (especially for women) is so valuable for our health and wellbeing.
Here’s the bit most self care lists skip. If you can’t seem to look after yourself, even when you really want to, there’s usually a belief running underneath, like “rest has to be earned” or “if I stop, everything falls apart.” That’s the work I do with PSYCH-K. I go deeper in Why Do I Keep Burning Out? The Subconscious Beliefs Behind It.

That’s it. There’s no need to add more pressure to your life. Starting small and then working out the best fit for you is the key.
If your tiredness, 3am wake-ups and brain fog feel like more than a busy schedule, read Perimenopause or Burnout? How to Tell. It’s often both.
Self care for busy women isn’t about doing more. It’s a few simple things, done regularly, that tell your body you matter too.
Rest and routine matter, but your body also needs support while it comes back into balance. For me, that meant pairing rest with that same 100% natural activator.
If this resonated, it doesn’t have to stay this way. I help high-achieving women over 40 recover from burnout, get their energy back and feel like themselves again. Explore Self Care: The Freedom Project or Get in touch here and let’s have a real conversation about what’s going on for you.
Until next time,
